The Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) is investigating the alleged rape of a 15-year-old at the Father's House Church in North End.
Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says according to police information, the incident took place on 12 March.
She says it is alleged that the victim, her 16-year old friend, and two boys, aged 17 and 18, were drinking and later went to the church, as one of the boys had access to the building.
Naidu says the investigation is of a sensitive nature and further details relating to the incident cannot be divulged at this stage.
She says no one has been charged and the investigation continues.
In a social media post to congregants, Pastor George Georgiou, said he and the church leadership were heartbroken for all involved, especially the victim.
“We have suspended any involvement and attendance of the boys involved at FH (Fathers House) until there is a final outcome and have offered counseling and pastoral support to all involved, some of whom have taken up the offer,” he said.
