The Knysna Municipality has handed over cheques worth more than R600 000 to 41 charities, schools, sport clubs and non-profitable organisations.
A further R400 000 is also given to the Knysna Animal Welfare Society on an annual basis.
Knysna Executive Mayor Georlene Wolmarans said the Municipality's Grant in Aid Programme had been donating funds to worthy, registered organisations consistently over the years.
She says one of the best things about being Mayor is to be part of these programmes in which the community benefits directly from the processes of local government.
