KKNK visitors asked to be extra cautious

The Operation Commander of the South African Police Service at the KKNK Festival has called on all visitors and participants to be extra cautious and vigilant whilst visiting Oudtshoorn to take part in the festivities.

The appeal by Colonel Draad Dreyer follows the arrest on Sunday morning of a 32-year-old man who now stands accused of the robbery and attempted rape of a 36-year-old woman.

The woman was overpowered by a man who appeared to be a car attendent.

He allegedly strangled and robbed her of R200 and a small amount of foreign currency.
He also attempted to rape her, but she managed to escape.

Although traumatised at the time, the woman was able to give a proper description of her assailant to police and a suspect was arrested less than an hour later.

The man made a brief appearance in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate's court on Monday and was remanded in custody until his next appearance on the 11th of April.
