Kirkwood thieves pour petrol over furniture

Police in Kirkwood arrested seven men who allegedly burgled the same house in town over a period of five days.

According to police the men first hit the house in Angle street on Saturday the 20th of April and gained access by damaging the garage door.

Police Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says the men managed to flee with various household items and returned to the property two days later.

She says on Monday the 22nd, they removed the sliding door and stole some more items.

In the evening four of the men returned but were surprised by a private security officer who unsuccessfully chased after them.

Swart says the men returned for a fourth time to the house during the early hours of the 23rd of April.

The suspects removed the sliding door again and poured petrol all over the furniture and exterior walls, before setting some of it on fire.

The security on the scene managed to blaze the fire by using water from the swimming pool.

The suspects again managed to flee.

Police set up a team of detectives to investigate the matter and soon received valuable information which led them to a house in Aquapark where seven men were arrested.

The suspects aged between 24-32 had several items, allegedly stolen from the house in Angle Street, in their possession.

They are expected to appear in court on Thursday where they will face several charges.
