Kirkwood teenager stabbed to death, suspect arrested

Kirkwood police have arrested a 27-year-old man on a charge of murder, following the fatal stabbing of a teenager.

Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says police were notified about a body lying on the sidewalk in Chris Hani Street in Moses Mabhida in the early hours of Saturday morning.

She says the 19-year old victim sustained a stab wound to the chest and was declared dead on the scene.

Swart says police received information of a possible suspect, and he was arrested at a residence in the Platini Area near Kirkwood later on Saturday.

The motive for the murder is not known

The man will appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
