The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed that Abathembu King Buyelekhaya Dalinyebo has been released from East London Correctional Centre after having served a minimum of his sentence.
Department spokesperson, Crispin Phiri, said on Monday that he had been eligible for parole since October and had been released in terms of “this regime”.
The King was jailed in 2015 for an effective 12 years after being found guilty of arson, assault, kidnapping and culpable homicide
His release comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa last week announced that he and Fees Must Fall, activist, Khaya Cekeshe, were among thousands of inmates who had been granted a special remission of sentence.
Phiri told Algoa FM News that King Dalinyebo will be required to adhere to all the conditions of his parole.
