One person was killed and four people were injured when a car collided with a bus on the N2 between Port Elizabeth and Makhanda, formerly Grahamstown.
Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said the driver of the vehicle was killed while four passengers on the bus, three men and a woman, were rushed to hospital with slight injuries.
He said that Transport MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxotiwe, lamented the fact that one death was one too many for the province.
However, Binqose said it was worth noting that "given the sheer number of people on the bus", the Department was grateful that the situation was not worse than it could have been.
SAPS have opened a culpable homicide docket.
