King Dalindyebo still in hospital

The AbaThembu Royal family spokesperson on Thursday said doctors had informed the family that King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo was recovering well at St Dominics Private Hospital in East London.

King Dalindeyebo was hospitalised in January after apparently embarking on a hunger strike since early January. He has already been hospitalised several times.

Family spokesperson Daludumo Mtirara said: “We do not yet know when exactly he will be discharged but the family is happy that his condition is improving.”

Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Manelisi Wolela could not disclose Dalindyebo’s health condition.

Dalindyebo is serving a 12-year sentence at the East London Maximum Correctional Centre after being found guilty of kidnapping, assault arson and defeating ends of justice.

Meanwhile, Mtirara said the family was currently waiting for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to return to them regarding the nomination of a successor to King Dalindyebo.

“We expect to receive feedback from the department soon. This is rather an urgent matter now.”

King Dalindyebo’s son Azenathi and brother Jongisizwe Mthandeni Dalindyebo are contention to succeed to the throne.

“Everyone is satisfied with the two nominations, but only one can be King,” said Mtirara
