Six people were killed in an accident on the N2 outside Grahamstown on Monday.
Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie, said that a single vehicle had overturned.
"It is alleged that an Opel SUV with a trailer overturned and left the road 12 km outside Grahamstown towards Port Elizabeth," she said.
"Three children and two adults died on the scene of the crash," Rantjie said.
She said the cause of the crash is not yet known at this stage.
Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell, said afterwards that a sixth person died on the way to hospital.
The car had Cape Town registration plates.
