Police in Ladysmith, Kwazulu Natal, arrested a 36-year-old man who allegedly kidnapped and murdered a suspected thief.
Spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala says the 20-year-old victim was accused of stealing a car and was kidnapped by seven men from his home on Saturday.
She says community members came to his aid after hearing his cries for help.
They managed to grab one of the men but shots were fired to scare them off and he managed to get away.
Gwala says police worked around the clock to find the victim and eventually tracked him down on Tuesday morning.
The victim sustained several gunshot wounds and had been severely assaulted.
Police, again, condemned acts of vigilantism.
