Kiani Satu crew interdicted from leaving the country

The crew of the stricken bulk carrier Kiani Satu has been interdicted from leaving the country by the Western Cape High Court.

This follows an application that was brought by the owners and insurers of the cargo vessel, in order to protect their interests.

The respondents include the owners of the Kiani Satu , the crew from the Ukraine and the Philippines, and the vessel's insurers.

The order restrains the crew from leaving the jurisdiction area of the court.

A long list of shipping documents, including logbooks, sea trial data and other documents pertaining to the ship and the cargo, may also not to be removed.

The return for the "rule nisi" order is Tuesday.

The 165 metre long vessel carrying 15-thousand tons of rice and 300 tons of fuel oil, ran aground at Buffels Bay near Knysna last Thursday.
