A core staff member in the Eastern Cape Department of Health has appeared in court on a charge of drunken driving.
The National Prosecuting Authority said that Ayanda Matinise appeared at the King William's Town Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of fraud, using a state vehicle without consent and violating lockdown regulations as he allegedly transported alcohol.
NPA spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, said he was granted bail of R5000 and his case was postponed to 13 October for further investigation.
Matinise was arrested by police on Saturday and according to Ngcakani, he tried to evade arrest by attempting to bribe police officials.
