A Johannesburg businesswoman who survived a brutal gang rape on Port Elizabeth's Kings Beach has called for the police to reopen her case.
This, after she identified two suspects on the same beach almost two years to the day after her brutal attack and just over a month after she was informed that the case had been withdrawn from the court roll.
About 100 women of all races and political backgrounds joined Andy Kawa in a march to the Humewood police station today where a memorandum was presented to police calling on them to continue investigating her rape case.
An emotional Kawa lashed out at the police and the judiciary when the marchers arrived at the Humewood police station..
"The police and the judiciary have made rape acceptable by not properly investigating cases so that justice can be done. We are not enjoying the promise of our constitution," she said.
"We do not have the right to safety, security, dignity (and) justice. Together we say Kwanele, enough is enough. We want to restore our rights. We want to be safe, we want to have criminals in jail."
Police colonel, Mark Houwland says the matter will be handed over to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
