A pure African wild cat from the Karoo will be winging its way to the Johannesburg Zoo early next month.
Conservationist and 50/50 TV presenter, Braam Malherbe, is picking up the tab for Daisy's flight to the Joburg Zoo where she will be part of a breeding programme.
Marion Holmes of Karoo Cats says they've been working with the four smaller, indigenous wild cat species for about 13 years.
She says when they started they received African wild cats from the Joburg Zoo and are now happy to return the favour.
"Unfortunately over the years more and more of the gene pool is being diluted with domestic cats genes which then hybridises them so it is quite difficult to get the pure genes and we have been in negotiations with the Johannesburg Zoo to return the favour and send one of our females on a breeding loan to them" she said.
