Police are investigating cases of murder and house robbery following a home invasion in Kariega during the early hours of Friday morning.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says the incident took place in Tolbos Street in Strelitzia Park.
She says a 14-year-old youth woke up at around 2.30 to the sounds of fiddling at the door, after which a brick was thrown through a bedroom window.
"The teenager ran into his parent’s room and they locked the door. The door was kicked open and shots were fired," she said.
The homeowner, 36-year-old Xhobani Maya, sustained a gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries.
Janse Van Rensburg said the three intruders took a TV set, a PlayStation console, and cell phones.
She said after the men left, the wife contacted the security company.
The investigation is continuing.
