Deolan Leander (30) a member of Northfield Engineering and a champion bodybuilder, will fly Nelson Mandela Bay's flag high in Spain as he prepares to compete in the Physical Culture Association World Championships, which will be held in Malaga on Sunday, 19 November.

He will fly out on Wednesday evening.

"I feel positive as I have put in all the hard work which warranted me the opportunity to compete on the world stage," says Leander.

His road to the world stage was secured by winning the silver medal in the under 70kg category at the SA bodybuilding championships in Pretoria in September.

With the optimism comes a bit of nerves, but he knows he should embrace the opportunity.

"My main goal is to win my division."

Leander is determined to make the most of the trip as it is his first international experience

"God brought me this far and I believe that I’m going to make it and make everyone proud", he said.
