A would be house robber got more than he bargained for when he was overpowered by a 21-year-old karate enthusiast in the yard of a Port Elizabeth house.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the drama began shortly after 8am Sunday morning when the teenage suspect scaled a wall of a house in Third Avenue, Newton Park.
She says however that home-owner's son confronted the youth who pointed a firearm at him.
Naidu says in spite of this the karate enthusiast tackled the suspect and overpowered him.
It was later established that the firearm was a toy gun.
Naidu says police also found a hammer in the youth's possession.
He will appear in court soon.
