Three convicted rapists were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Bhisho High Court for raping a 23-year-old woman, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.
Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said Thobela Khumalo, 21, Masixole Bosman, 22, and Bonginkosi Mhlekezana, 19 were sentenced on Thursday, for the February 2015 rape.
“It is alleged that the woman was going to the shop when the three assailants dragged her to a nearby road at Mngqesha village, outside King William’s Town and took turns raping her. The victim was later dragged to a shack owned by [an] accused where they raped her further. The shack owner accompanied the victim home the next morning,†Mawisa said.
The case was reported to the police and the three were charged for rape, robbery and kidnapping. They were positively identified to the rape after their DNA blood samples were matched to those found on the woman.
Khumalo and Bosman were each sentenced to one life sentence, five years for robbery and five years for kidnapping. Mhlekezana was handed one life sentence.
