A man who confessed to killing and raping a woman in Kleinskool in August 2020 was sentenced to life in prison in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court on Monday.

The 31-year-old Andrew George was walking home with 30-year-old Melissa Marlow in Independence Road in Kleinskool in August 2020.

They’d been drinking with friends earlier in the evening when he offered to walk her home.

She said George hit Marlow over the head with a stone and then raped her before stabbing her in the neck.

He was arrested at a relative's house in Kariega on the 1st of September of that year.

Khulile Mbobela (three life terms)

In a separate case, a 27-year-old Motherwell man has been sentenced to three life terms for the rape of two young women.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says Khulile Mbobela was sentenced in the PE High Court on Monday.

She says the victims, aged 19 and 22, were walking in Central in March 2020 when they were approached by Mbobela, who forced them at knifepoint to walk with him.

She says he demanded money from the women and when they said they didn't have any he raped them in an open field.

Mbobela was arrested in the area a day later after one of the women spotted him while in the company of the police.

He was released on bail of R2 000 following his initial court appearance where he was charged with rape, kidnapping and attempted robbery.

In court on Monday, Mbobela was sentenced to an additional 20 years for rape, 10 years for kidnapping and three years for attempted robbery - these will run concurrently with the life sentences.
