Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has admitted that he had not attended to his tax affairs as required by law.
He made the admission in a statement on Monday after after the Pretoria High Court postponed his sequestration hearing to the 25th of August following a conditional compromise agreement with the SA Revenue Service.
Malema said he had left his financial affairs in the hands of others without making sure that his obligations had been complied with.
According to court papers, Malema owed Sars R16 million plus interest after failing to submit tax returns between 2006 and 2010.
In February, Malema's estate was provisionally sequestrated. Sars has attached some of Malema's property to recoup the taxes he owed.
