The judicial commission into the killing of 44 people during wage-related protests at Marikana mine, North West, will resume in January.
Commission chairperson, retired judge Ian Farlam, announced the festive season break on Thursday.
President Jacob Zuma announced the commission in August.
He said the commission's work had to be completed in 4 months, and present its final report to him a month later.
