Joubertina man arrested following death of his three year old grand-daughter

A Joubertina grandfather has been arrested following the death of his three month old grand daughter.

The family tragedy unfolded on Sunday when the 50-year-old man allegedly became enraged when he could not wake up his intoxicated daughter to prepare food for him.

Police spokesperson, lieutenant-colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the man used a knobkierie to assault his daughter, while her little baby, Jody, slept beside her.

"The man was also allegedly drunk and during the assault the missed a blow and hit the child on the head. Jody Lottering was rushed to the Joubertina hospital via ambulance while in transit to Kareedouw hospital she passed away. we are investigating a case of murder" Naidu said.
