Police in Port Elizabeth held a special operation in Bluewater Bay and Swartkops on Thursday where they specifically focused on money lenders or so-called "skoppers" in the Metro.
Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says the Motherwell police cluster was joined by officials from SASSA as well as SABRIC to check if lenders comply with the law.
He says four cases were opened at the Swartkops police station for the Contravention of Section 133 and Section 90(2) of the National Credit Act 34 of 2005.
Police confiscated 40 SASSA cards, 55 Easy Pay cards, 2 ID cards, 10 Bank cards as well as cash of more than R25 000.
Beetge says no arrests have been made as they must still obtain statements from the confiscated cardholders.
Police issued a stern warning to money lenders that they are subject to legislation and apart from that compliance, it is illegal to keep ID or Bank cards of clients.
Beetge says the investigation continues and arrests are expected.
