The next batch of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be arriving in East London on Wednesday.
The Frere Hospital has been identified as a satellite vaccination site where health workers from both public and private hospitals will be vaccinated first.
A spokesperson for the Buffalo City Metro Samkelo Ngwenya says the vaccine is due for final approval by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) in due course.
He says the vaccination teams in the District continue to work on the readiness plans towards the mass vaccination roll-out.
Ngwenya says the logistics team is busy ensuring that the vaccination sites also meet the requirements of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
South Africa aims to vaccinate around 1.1 million people against Covid-19 by the end of March as it ramps up its vaccination programme.
