A Joint Operations centre has been activated at the offices of the OR Tambo District Municipality, following Monday's storm in the Mthatha Area.
Sixteen villages have been affected in the KSD Municipality including schools and churches.
Earlier the Department of Health in the Eastern Cape said at least seven people were stuck by lighting and some injured by flying debris.
Meanwhile Eskom technicians have been hard at work since the early hours of the morning to restore the electricity supply to thousands of customers affected by the storm.
Customers are urged to be cautious around fallen and low hanging infrastructure and treat electricity as live.
