East London police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder after a 75-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the upper body during a robbery in Gonubie on Tuesday.
Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala says the deceased's 77-year-old husband was also stabbed in the upper body and is in a stable condition in hospital.
Mqala says two men entered the couple's home and demanded cash. They attacked the couple when they said they did not have any money on them.
She says the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money from a purse.
The names of the victims will only be released when their next of kin have been informed.
