East London police have opened an inquest docket after a man from Johannesburg went missing in the surf at Eastern beach.
NSRI station commander, Geoff McGreggor, says they were called in to action on Sunday afternoon following reports from lifeguards that the man had gone missing in three metre swells during spring tide.
He says NSRI volunteers were supported by East London Fire and Rescue Services, the police as well as police K-9 services.
McGreggor says despite an extensive search the man was not found.
