Two armed robbers have hit a well-known jewellery store at the Hemingways Mall in East London.
AlgoaFM news reporter Olwethu Xabanisa was at the scene and says the robbers struck around 11 am on Wednesday morning.
He says according to the Centre Management the suspects shattered the display window by using a sharp object.
They fled with an unknown amount of jewellery items.
Hemingway's Mall General Manager Reinette van Tonder confirmed that an armed robbery had taken place at Dennis Collins Jewellers at approximately 11h15.
She said one of the Mall's security personnel was held at gunpoint while another perpetrator smashed through the reinforced shopfront glass before making off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
No shots were fired inside the Mall and no injuries were reported.
According to Van Tonder, police had 'engaged' with the suspects on the outside parking perimeter of Hemingways Mall but that no arrests had been made.
