No lights, water, electricity, internet or cellphone tower in Hofmeyr

Hundreds of residents in Hofmeyr in the Eastern Cape took to the streets again this morning to protest against electricity and water outages.

Two resident from town told Algoa FM News how the town has been without water and electricity for six days.

The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality blamed the outages on lightning which struck on Sunday the 2nd of February.

A spokesperson for the Municipality Lonwabo Kowa says the lightning wrecked the electricity infrastructure which in turn affected the provision of water.

He says Hofmeyr's electricity is provided by Eskom and the municipality.

Kowa says they have already repaired the side of town that they are responsible for.

The Municipality says Eskom is working around the clock to repair the damage in their transformer.

According to the Municipality, water has been restored in certain areas.

They urged communities to be patient and also closed the municipal building as a precaution.

According to locals even the cellphone tower, which was recently fixed, is again not working.

Police are yet to comment.
