The popular Billabong Pro surfing event may have been downgraded but this has not stopped the Kouga Municipality from positioning itself as a Winter playground.
To counter the loss of the annual global event, the Municipality has launched a jam-packed winter festival programme that will be anchored by a surfing event featuring former Australian champion, Mark Ochilupo
Kouga councillor Brenton Williams says the festival started off as just a surfing competition, but has now grown into several allied events.
Kouga Executive Mayor, Booi Koerat says the loss of the Billabong pro was a big shock - however, the new festival will fill the gap and make a difference to the area..
