Two Plettenberg Bay men have been given lengthy jail sentences for a murder and robbery committed in November last year.
Eighteen year old Athenkosi Makazu and 19-year-old Sibongile Ndzelani were jailed yesterday for an effective 18 and 25 years respectively for the murder of 57-year-old Richard Carr.
He was stabbed to death during a robbery at his Navesink Crescent home, while his wife sustained stab wounds.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Bernadine Steyn, praised the Hawks from George who arrested the suspects two days after the incident and secured the conviction and sentence.
Meanwhile, Steyn says Beaufort West police have seized a sizeable quantity of the narcotic plant Khat.
She says bundles of the plants were found on a mini-bus and two busses that were stopped and searched during operations in the town today.
She says khat with a total street value of nearly R178,000 was seized.
Steyn says one person arrested in the mini-bus, for being in posession of khat worth six thousand rand, will appear in court on Monday.
There were no arrests for the other two big finds.
