A 12 year-old girl from Jeffrey's Bay is missing, presumed drowned, after getting into difficulty while swimming in the Paradise Lagoon outside the town.
A search by police divers will resume on Monday morning.
Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei says the family from Jefferey's Bay visited Paradise Lagoon on Sunday afternoon and two girls aged 11 and 12 went swimming. The 11 year-old screamed for help after getting into difficulty and was rescued by a family member.
By then, the 12 year-old had already disappeared under the water.
Police divers from Port Elizabeth were summoned to the scene and despite an extensive search, the girl could not be found.
