Isuzu Trucks South Africa today announced the 100% acquisition of two Port Elizabeth companies as part of its strategy to become a more "enterprise" focussed business.
Chief Operations Officer, Craig Uren, says their scope of work and business is no longer focussed solely on what leaves the factory gate.
Speaking to the local media on Monday, Uren said that for some time they've believed that every Isuzu truck sold into the market possesses an economic opportunity of its own.
"Like in any business you have to look to the future and we had to look at what our customers needs are and efficiencies in business so we are looking much further down the supply chain to provide a much integrated service level to our customers through our dealers and at the same time allowing ourselves to add a lot more value to all the players in that supply chain," he said.
Uren said that Isuzu Trucks South Africa acquired 100% of Kanu Body Building and Automotive Chassis Technology.
While not revealing the purchase price Uren said that the companies, owned by Tony Wright, have an annual turn-over in the region of R100 pa.
The new acquitision will be run by former Isuzu Truck Plant Manager, Sipho Sandla, who will become the General Manager.
He explains how the new acquisitions will add value to the Isuzu product offering.
"Looking at it from the outside, certainly there is huge benefit in terms of deliveries thereof. In this case there's going to be opportunity for lead time reduction to the current position, to halving it or maybe getting a third of the lead time straight to the customer," he said.
