Ironman issues ironed out

The 2019 Standard Bank Ironman competition is going ahead as planned after organisers reached an agreement with SMME contractors who were demanding 30 per cent of the work.

The agreement was announced during a media briefing at City Hall on Friday morning.

Earlier this week, the Summerstrand Business Forum brought the event construction activities on the PE's beachfront to a halt, demanding that some work is farmed out to SMME contractors.

The Forum's spokesperson, Khusela Mquboli, said a consensus was further reached after they expressed their grievances during negotiations in which they stated that they wanted to participate in the process by becoming service providers for the event.

He said the agreement would be signed on Friday afternoon.

Ironman South Africa CEO, Keith Bowler, who was also present at the briefing, told the media that both party's negotiated in good faith and that a resolution which is mutually beneficial was reached.
