IPID investigates shooting incident in EC police station

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is probing a shooting incident on Thursday at the Matatiele police station.

A woman was wounded when a shot went off while a police constable and his colleagues were involved in an argument following the arrests of two people on charges of drinking in public.

Eastern Cape provincial police spokesperson, Sibongile Soci, says the policeman was friendly with the two suspects.

She says a woman who was at the community services centre to report a separate matter was wounded.

The police constable will appear in court soon on a charge of attempted murder.
