Port Elizabeth police will continue their investigation, after a former policeman shot and killed his estranged wife, and then turned the gun on himself in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Stanley Jarvis says 48-year old Stephanus Rautenbach shot 43-year old Tessa Maria Steyn once in the face, before shooting himself in the head.
He says the incident happened at around 4-30, at a house in Rocklands, outside Port Elizabeth.
Jarvis says two 12-year old children were woken by the shots, and discovered the bodies in the house.
He says Rautenbach, who worked in the security industry, was a former policeman, while Steyn was a police member at Motherwell police station.
The motive for the attack is not known.
Police are investigating a case of murder, and have opened an inquest docket.
