East London police are investigating a case of arson and opened and inquest docket, following a shack fire in the Beacon Bay area.
Spokesperson, captain Stephen Marais, says a 25-year old woman allegedly set a shack alight in Nompumelelo informal settlement during an argument with her boyfriend in the early hours of the morning.
Marais says two shacks were destroyed in the flames in the early hours of Monday.
He says the woman died at the scene.
Marais says at this stage police are not ruling out the possibility that alcohol was involved.
