Interpol has been called in to intervene in a card phishing scam that has affected pay points at some of South Africa's fast food outlets.
According to the Payment Association of South Africa, a virus called Dexter has breached the pay points of several outlets - causing false payments .
Officials say they've been tracking the scam for several weeks, describing it as one of the worst the country's ever experienced.
It's reportedly cost banks and credit card companies millions of Rand.
PASA CEO Walter Volker says they believe the source of the virus is foreign:
"They are not based in South Africa they are an overseas syndicate somewhere in Europe. This is part of a broader criminal investigation at this stage" he said.
