Interesting twist in Omotoso trial


The rape and human trafficking trial of Nigerian pastor, Timothy Omotoso, took an interesting turn on Thursday when the prosecution was forced to amend its indictment.

State Prosecutor, Nceba Ntwelwa conceded that parts of the indictment needed to be amended following testimony by one of the state's key witnesses, Lerato Msibi.

Omotoso's attorney, Peter Daubermann, asked the court today to strike her evidence from the court record which did not relate to the specific information contained in the State's indictment.

He said Msibi's testimony and that of the first witness, Andisiwe Dike, went beyond "the further particulars supplied by the State.

"After an adjournement, and several pointed questions by Judge Irma Schoeman, Ntelwa conceded that parts of the State's case needed to be an amended

The case was postponed to Friday for Ntelwa to prepare a formal application to amend the state's indictment.

Omotoso and his two co-accused, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho face more than 90 charges that include rape, sexual assault, human trafficking and racketeering.
