The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has once again urged residents to use water sparingly as the combined capacity of the Metro's four main supply dams drops below 27%.
The appeal on Thursday came from the Mayoral Committee Member responsible for Infrastructure and Engineering Andile Lungisa during a visit to the supply dams.
Their first stop was the Churchhill Dam, the smallest of the supply dams, which is currently sitting at 82% of capacity.
Nelson Mandela Bay's Water and Sanitation Director, Barry Martin, told the media that the Metro's water distribution network is a highly integrated system.
"What we have also done through the years is make use of the Nooitgedacht water scheme. We bring water in through the Greenbushes area and mix it in at Schoenmakerskop and bring it in along the coast meaning that the people in New Brighton also get that water."
Martin stressed that no-one in the Metro receives preferential treatment and that the onus is on everyone to continue saving water.
"It does not matter on which side of the Metro you stay, it's integrated so everybody must save water."
