Eastern Cape Rural Development and Agrarian Reform MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane says an increase in stock theft in the Alfred Nzo and Joe Gqabi districts, is a concern.
He says the continuous crime in these communities is bad for food security, growth of the provincial agriculture sector and rural economy.
Qoboshiyane says he is communicating with relevant MECs, government law enforcement agencies, farmers and communities to tighten efforts to curb the problem.
He called on stakeholders to be extra vigilant, to ensure that those responsible for stock theft are brought to book.
