The Buffalo City Municipality Speaker Alfred Mtsi, failed to call a special council meeting to discuss the rioting and damage being caused by protesting municipal workers.
According to the DA's Caucus Chairperson in the Municipality Vaughan Holmes, they had requested Mtsi to call the special council meeting regarding the issue earlier in the week.
Holmes said Tuesday's council meeting turned out being about the election of a new Chief Whip and new members of the mayoral committee.
He said during the meeting, the municipal manager Andile Sihlahla said the council has to wait for next week Wednesday's council meeting to present a report on the municipal workers strike.
Holmes says councillors are in the dark about what is going on with the strike and that it is impossible to communicate with the public if they themselves are not informed.
He says it is clear that all discussions about the strike stopped at the Mayor's office.
Hundreds of municipal workers on a wildcat strike over issues work-related issues, protested outside the East London City Hall while the Council meeting was underway.
They are demanding that the Municipality address their grievances before they bring the institution to a standstill.
Protesters have set alight municipal buildings and destroyed essential infrastructure in both King Williams Town and East London.
Sawmu members, however, have denied any involvement in these criminal activities.
