The development of information technology infrastructure in George will present a welcome boost to the local economy.
IT company, Dark Fibre Africa says its currenly installing fibre optic instructure in the George area valued at R15m.
The company says the project will not only catapult the city of George into the digital age, but will also bring significant investment into the area.
DFA CEO, Gustav Smit, says they're employing local labourers and contractors as part of their business strategy.
Most of the project materials and consumables are purchased from local businesses.
He says other cities that will benefit from the roll-out of fibre infrastructure include Knysna, East London and Mthatha with an investment value in excess of R80m.
