Port Elizabeth police are still searching for three suspects who were involved in a shootout with police in Zwide Thursday night.
Forty-year-old Warrant Officer Ewald Els was wounded and admitted to hospital where he's said to be in a stable condition.
His partner, Warrant Officer Jakobus Botha, escaped unharmed.
Police said the two members from Kwazakhele police station were following up information about suspects with firearms in public view when they came under fire in Ngwekazi Street.
They shot back and one suspect was arrested and a firearm recovered.
Provincial police commissioner Celiwe Binta has called on anyone who may know the whereabouts of the remaining suspects to contact their local police.
