Hundreds protest in PE against Israeli aggression in Gaza

Hundreds of people from civil society organisations and trade union federation Cosatu, under the banner of the Palestine Solidarity Alliance, held a protest outside the offices of the SABC in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

They called for an end to Israel's aggression in the Gaza Strip.

"We are here to protest for what is going on in Palestine it is a war that has been waged against those people. We are standing with our COSATU members, our NUMSA brothers and our ANC brothers who are giving us support in the Muslim community and we are here to protest that they must stop all this killing in Palestine." says PSA Organising Commitee Member, Rethar Abdullah.

Cosatu Regional Secretary Andile Bloko, says the union pledges solidarity with the people of Palestine.

"We say away with the Israel government, we know Israel have been supporting Apartheid South Africa when the people of Palestine were supporting the struggle for the liberation of our people. We are saying we support the people of Palestine and we want the ambassador of Israel to be chased out of our country with immediate effect." says Bloko.

The alliance later handed over a memorandum to Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality calling on the government to take action with a full military embargo on Israel.
