More than 800 police trainees held their final passing out parade in the Eastern Cape capital Bhisho on Friday ahead of being deployed in police stations across the province.
They were part of a group of 849 trainees who were accepted for recruitment at the Bhisho training facility.
According to SAPS, 24 trainees did not complete the programme due to misconduct and dishonesty while there was “one accidental death”.
Acting Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Major General Swart, said all applicants were subjected to physical fitness, psychometric and integrity testing as well as medical evaluations during the recruitment process.
The training focused on police orientation, the law, crime prevention and detection, street survival and crowd management.
Swart said the curriculum also included cybercrime and tactical response training.
He said the aim of this approach is to enable newly appointed police officials to use a series of legal and policing skills to protect and serve members of communities in accordance with the constitution of South Africa.
