Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation in the Mzamohle Informal settlement in Gonubie near East London after a massive fire left many people without shelter.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Hazel Mqala, says more than 100 shacks caught fire on Monday night leaving dozens of people homeless.
She says no one was seriously injured, but one resident was admitted to hospital.
Mqala says the cause of the fire is still unknown.
She says those people left homeless are being sheltered at the Gonubie Public Hall.
Mqala's also pleaded for donations to assist the destitute families.
