A chief social worker and a coodinator for an HIV/ AIDS project in Humansdorp has been found guilty of theft in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court.
Department of Social Development employee, Nompumelelo Kila, was convicted of theft on Thursday involving more than one hundred thousand rand.
She was acquitted on a charge of corruption.
The court heard that Kila had demanded payment from the Ethembeni Community Organisation after the Department of Social Development had approved a grant payment to them.
The state contended that this payment would also ensure the continued funding of the organisation.
Kila's bail of two-thousand rand was extended and she will be back in court on the 16th of September for pre-sentencing arguments.
