Humansdorp man sentenced to 12 years for fraud

A  car salesman from Humansdorp has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for fraud.

Anton Frederick Jonker, who used to work at CBF Motors, earlier pleaded guilty to charges of fraud involving more than R1.3-million, and was duly found guilty in January 2010, and released on bail.

Following Tuesday's sentencing in the Commercial Crimes Court in Port Elizabeth, Jonker successfully applied for leave to appeal his sentence.

He was granted R40 000' bail, and the Appeal Court will determine a date for the hearing.

According to the charge sheet, Jonker sold vehicles belonging to CBF Motors, pocketed the cash and failed to deliver the vehicles during November and December 2008.

He also sold vehicles belonging to a business called Desert Charm under the guise that it belonged to CBF Motors, and received a large proportion of the proceeds of the sale.

Jonker says in his plea explanation that he is sorry about what he's done, and offers to pay compensation for the losses.
