Huge water savings in NMB

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Athol Trollip says the Metro has been saving 15-million litres of water per day for the last eight months, thanks to the timeous repair of water leaks.

This is the same as six full Olympic-sized swimming pools every day.

The issue of water wastage was one of the key points the new administration tackled when it too office after last year's local government elections.

Trollip says under the previous administration, approximately 37% of the Metro's water was lost to leaks, bursts, and spills.

Over the last eight months, the new local authority has managed to reduce this figure to below 31.3%.

Trollip noted, however, that the Metro still has a long way to go to reach the long term objective of reducing water losses to a single digit figure.
